The Court may award joint custody if doing so is in accordance with the best interests of the child. Joint custody allows one parent to have primary physical possession of the child, but gives both parents shared decision making in major areas of the child's upbringing. Sole custody grants one parent not only primary physical possession of the child, but also the authority to unilaterally make all major upbringing decisions.
Any parent who is not granted custody of minor children is entitled to reasonable parenting time. I am experienced in negotiating nontraditional visitation schedules to work most effectively with our clients.
Child custody cases are most often resolved through either an amicable settlement or litigation. An amicable resolution involves both parents reaching a mutually acceptable resolution through either settlement negotiations or mediation. Mediation is a very effective way to assist you in reaching mutually beneficial solution in your child custody case. Mediation empowers each spouse to make important decisions regarding custody and visitation and prevents the Court from making these decisions for you. If an amicable solution cannot be reached, then litigation in the courtroom will become necessary. If your case goes to trial, we will provide zealous advocacy to protect your interests and strive to reach the best result possible.
